Ballet Week: How to Make Ballet Slippers

Ballet Week is in full swing! So before you start ballet class, you need some ballet slippers! So why don't we make some?
 You'll Need

  • Fabric (pink is best, but any color is fine)
  • Needle
  • Thread
  • A pair of doll shoes (you need both shoes)
  • A pen (or pencil, but no marker)
  • Scissors
  • A standard-size hair elastic (try to stay away from black; it bleeds easily)
Nina the Shark offered to help me, so you'll see her throughout the post!

 1. Trace two of each shoe onto the fabric.
It's a good idea to draw a line in between which tracings came from what foot.
 2. Add an oval in the middle of one tracing from each foot. Make yours smaller than mine!!!!!
 3. Cut them out.
 4. Carefully cut out the circle on the feet with them. Now, for each foot, you have a doughnut piece and a solid piece.
 5. Sew them together. CAUTION: Needles are sharp. If you are not that experienced in sewing and/or you're on the younger side, you should have an adult help you and/or be present.

 6. Cut the hair elastic so it looks like this:

 7. Lay the elastic across the slipper and cut it to size.
 8. Sew it on.
9. Turn inside out and enjoy your new slippers! (Hint: There's a spoiler in this picture!)
I hope you enjoyed the first day of Ballet Week! I have a surprise tomorrow, so stray tuned!
